Table Of Content
The Boston Acoustics TVee Model 25 soundbar described in one phrase is a svelte two-piece ensemble. It comprises of a stereo soundbar as well as a compact wireless subwoofer. The soundbar itself is very slim and it probably has the perfect size to be placed in front of a 32 inch or larger flat screen TVs. However if you would rather wall mount this 4.4 x 31.5 x 4.4 inches soundbar, then you can easily do so with the keyhole slots that come with the soundbar. It tips the scales at only 5 pounds. The subwoofer unit that comes with the soundbar measures in at 9.5 x 10.5 x 11 inches making it a really compact subwoofer. As small as it can be, it still weighs about 11.9 pounds. Since it is wireless, that means you can place the subwoofer anywhere in the room as long as the soundbar and subwoofer share the same frequency.
Features
The Boston Acoustics TVee Model 25 Home Theater Soundbar comes with the Boston DSP Control Switch which is there to maximize the performance of your soundabr based on where you place it. Another feature that comes with the soundbar is the digital inputs support for Dolby Digital decoding. Thanks to this technology, you get amazing surround sound quality that Dolby is known for. Another cool feature is how you can teach the soundbar the volume controls for your TV. This might be something you would want to do given that Boston Acoustics does not provide a remote control for this soundbar.
Moving on to the input options on this sound bar, we find it to provide pretty much the usual connections a surroundbar would have. You are provided with stereo RCA inputs with the Boston Acoustics TVee Model 25 and there is also an optical input. We also liked how Boston Acoustics had put some thought into the design as you see the optical input placed within a little recess and positioned laterally so as to avoid the cable from getting crimpled when wall mounted. This little design touch would go a long way in making the user experience a lot better. Another input is the 3.5mm stereo mini aux which is good to have as you can connect your MP3 players straight to the surround bar and start playing your music.
Setting up the Boston Acoustics TVee Model 25 Home Theater Soundbar
Boston Acoustics are kind enough to provide you with an optical cable, so setting up the surround bar shouldn’t take too long if you only have one source. For instance if you only have a Blu-ray player that you wish to connect to the sound bar, then all you got to do is plug the player to the back of the Boston Acoustics TVee Model 25 soundbar. However, it you have got both that Blu-ray player as well as a Tivo, and then all you have to do is run them through your TV and then connect the optical out form the TV to your soundbar. Just don’t forget to disable the TV speakers because you no longer need them. Once you are done with setting up your sources, there are two more things left to do. One, get both your sound bar and subwoofer on the same wireless channel. Next, you should get the soundbar to learn the volume controls for your TV. Why? Because you do not get a remote control which you clearly don’t need since it can learn those controls.
Sound Quality
The subwoofer might be tiny, but it is capable of giving you some amazing results. It proves this in the faux-surround mode. The Boston Acoustics TVee Model 25 surroundbar also catches our attention with the amazing clarity it gives when listening to dialogues. We feel the two 1.5 x 6 inch drivers found onboard actually does such a good job it trounces some of its competitors from the higher categories.
If you love listening to music, there is a specially made music mode right out of the box. If you use this mode, you will see that the treble pops out a little more. This is exactly what you want when you are listening to music, although that doesn’t mean bass is left out. It is still there for you to enjoy too. The bass part is mainly taken care of your wireless subwoofer at it produces deep and powerful distortion-free bass through the BassTrac circuitry. So unlike some sound bars we have seen in the past, the Boston Acoustics TVee Model 25 gives a rich and well-balanced performance when it comes to music.
Pros and Cons
The Boston Acoustics TVee Model 25 Home Theater soundbar is slim and well designed so it doesn’t come in the way if you are placing the soundbar in front the TV. The surroundbar also has a wide-bandwidth HRRT driver technology to give great audio performance. There is also no remote control but you can teach the TV volume controls to the soundbar so that means there’s one less remote to lose.
The fact that this soundbar doesn’t come with DTS support was a downer. Some may the absence of a remote as a bad thing too, that depends on the user mainly. Design wise, the front grille was a little flimsy.
Conclusion
The Boston Acoustics TVee Model 25 Home Theater soundbar is not going to be the replacement for a 5.1 channel surround sound system but this surroundbar provides a good all round performance for what it’s worth.
